Dr. Joel Conn (with Dr. Sarah Conn, Mr. Twiggs, and Bella)
Owner, Veterinarian
Joel was born and raised in Blacksburg, Virginia but migrated to California with the rest of his family following high school. He attended college at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, where he received his Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences in 2002. Joel went on to receive his doctorate at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2006, following an externship in Avian and Exotic Animal Medicine at the Animal Medical Center in New York.
Joel's primary interests include surgery and avian and exotic pet medicine. Ever since childhood, Joel has had a passion for working with and helping animals and has wanted to be a veterinarian since the age of five.
Joel is a member of the Rotary Club of Pismo Beach/Five Cities and has been a board member since 2010. He is also a board member of the Mid Coast Veterinary Medical Association and 2012 President of the Central Coast Professional's Network.
Joel currently does a bimonthly segment on the KCOY CBS 12 Morning News called "Ask the Vet." You can join him every other Monday at 6:45am!
In his spare time, Joel loves playing Ultimate Frisbee and disc
golf. Joel lives in Pismo Beach with his wife, Dr. Sarah Conn, his two dogs, Bella
and Mr. Twiggs, and his not-quite-morbidly-obese cat, Squishy Poof.

Dr.
Maxwell Conn
Owner, Veterinarian
Dr. Maxwell Conn has been a resident of the Central Coast
since January of 2000. He graduated from Virginia-Maryland
Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (Virginia Tech) in
1997.
After doing externships at the Baltimore Zoo, Baltimore Aquarium,
and Midwest exotics clinic in Chicago, he has remained active
in the dog, cat, and exotics communities.
Dr. Conn lectures to promote
exotic pet well-being through proper care, and has been published
in Exotic DVM magazine on several occasions.
Dr. Conn participates in on-line forums with veterinarians
from around the world, and he belongs to the Association of
Avian Veterinarians, and the Association of Exotic Mammal
Veterinarians.

Dr.
Sarah Conn
Owner, Veterinarian
Dr. Conn grew up in Minnesota, moving to California in 2000 for more sunshine and fewer mosquitoes. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Conservation Biology from the University of Minnesota and graduated from UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. Upon completion of a rotating internship in emergency care, surgery, and general medicine, Dr. Conn practiced in Sonoma County before moving to the beautiful Central Coast in 2009.
Although she enjoys the diversity of general practice, she holds a special interest in emergency medicine and diagnostic imaging.
Fulfilling her mission to enjoy the California life, Dr. Conn resides in Pismo Beach with her husband Joel, their two Italian greyhound-type dogs, and their cat.
Outside of work she enjoys playing Ultimate Frisbee, traveling, eating good food, and spending as much time as possible enjoying the outdoors.

Dr.
Suzanne Hennessy (and Bucky)
Veterinarian
Dr. Suzanne Hennessy has been practicing in the local area since 1993. She graduated from veterinary school at UC Davis in 1992.
After graduation she was offered a position at Gila Animal Hospital in Silver City, NM where she worked in a mixed animal practice. The following year she accepted a position at a clinic in Arroyo Grande, CA where she participated in both general practice and emergency duties.
In 1996, Dr. Hennessy (and former classmate) Dr. Kim Foster founded Pismo Beach Veterinary Clinic. They based their business plan on offering the highest quality veterinary services while still maintaining a personal, "small town" approach to client relations.
In 2009, Drs. Hennessy and Foster sold Pismo Beach Veterinary Clinic to Drs. Joel and Maxwell Conn who continue the tradition of the practice of excellence.
Throughout her career, Dr. Hennessy has had special interest in medicine and surgery for working and competition dogs. Dog training has become her avocation and she has trained several dogs to participate in agility and obedience competitions. Golden Retrievers have become her favored breed although over the years her heart has been touched by many engaging pets with many talents.

Julie, RVT
Registered Veterinary Technician
Julie has been working at Pismo Beach Veterinary Clinic since the beginning:, over 14 years! She is a Registered Veterinary Technician and has a total of approximately 28 years of experience. Julie has always enjoyed veterinary medicine because of its diversity. No day will ever be the same and there is no such thing as a being bored as there is always a surprise around every corner.
Julie's canine family consists of an Irish Wolfhound "Olivia" (her own "bull in a china shop"), a Standard Poodle named Brie who comes to work daily to supervise, and a Border Collie named Tess that keeps the household in order. Julie has three Quarter Horses: Roxie, a team penning retiree; Cowboy, a ranch work retiree;, and Cash, who is on sabbatical from ranch work. Julie also has an Arabian named Angel who just wants to have fun! The family rounds out with two cats, Biscuit and Key, whose job is to keep down the number of gophers and mice.
When Julie is not working, you can usually find her somewhere on her fully landscaped 2.5 acres working on the garden, creating magical places for her 3 grand-children to explore!

Molly, RVT
Registered Veterinary Technician
Molly has been an animal lover for as long as she can remember. Pets have always been an extremely important aspect of her life. She began her career as a veterinary technician in 2000 and fell in love with the veterinary field. She recently completed additional testing and attained her RVT license. Molly finds working with animals very rewarding and always a lot of fun. She admires the bond between pets and their families and is proud to be able to assist in caring for the health and longevity of that relationship.
Molly and her husband are the proud parents of five pets. They have three cats that Molly has rescued throughout her career, and two adorable house rabbits. Molly is also anticipating the addition of the first human baby to the family, expected to arrive in June!

Carolina (and Chula, Diego, Paris, and Chispita)
Veterinary Technician
Carolina is a resident of Santa Maria. Animals have always been her passion and she considers them a special part of her life. She has worked as a veterinary Technician for two years and enjoys every second of it!
She has four dogs of her own (Chispita, Chula, Paris, and Diego). In her spare time she loves to go shopping and spend time with her family and pets.
Carolina will always treat your pets like one of her own family!

Rebecca
Veterinary Technician
Rebecca was born in Visalia, California. She has two daughters, five furry sons (a dog, a cat, and three ferrets), and a female bearded dragon.
Rebecca has always wanted to work with animals so she attended a vocational program for Animal Health Technology in 1993. She graduated top of her class and has been working at veterinary hospitals ever since.
Rebecca plans on taking the state board exams and receiving her Registered Veterinary Technician license as soon as she can.

Victoria (and Chaz)
Veterinary Technician
Victoria grew up in Sonoma County and moved to the Central Coast in 2008 to attend Cal Poly. She is currently pursuing her degree in Biological Sciences in hopes of attending veterinary school.
Victoria developed a passion for working with shelter rescues when she began volunteering at her local animal shelter at the age of 9. Since then she has expanded her expertise and gained experience with birds and exotics as well as large animals.
In her spare time, Victoria enjoys hiking, traveling and of course spending time with Chaz, a unique mixture of Labrador and Scottish terrier. She is also an active volunteer at WOODS Humane Society, and loves to see familiar faces return as patients with their new families.

Annette
Receptionist
Annette is a native of the Central Coast and now resides in Arroyo Grande with her two beloved pets: Bronson, her dog (who she brings to work everyday) and Mia, her cat (who only occasionally comes to work with her).
Although Annette has no formal education in the veterinary field, her love for animals and people is evident from the moment you walk into the clinic.
When Annette is not in the clinic, she likes to go on long walks with Bronson, spend time with family and friends, and she also will occasionally dog-sit!

Dawnde
Veterinary Technician
Dawnde Wallen jointed our team in the fall of 2011. She describes herself as a warm, upbeat, animal lover and vegetarian. Her work experience in veterinary medicine is extensive, including 5 years in university critical care units and 2 years in private practice.
She originally discovered her passion for working with animals when she took a sabbatical from the high tech industry to work the adoption desk for the Marin Humane Society. This experience launched a life -long exploration of small animal medicine and advocacy. Dawnde has shared her life with rats, guinea pigs, horses, goats, dogs, and cats. She has a particular fondness for rescue babies and Pomeranians.
Dawnde has lived all over the country, as well as on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts where her partner attended veterinary school. She hopes to make the Central Coast her final stopping ground. She has been married for 9 years and adores her wife, extended family, and furry kids (a Caribbean dog, an Aussie from Alabama, and a sweet old cat).
In her free time, Ms. Wallen loves to garden, hike, cook, knit and crochet, do yoga stuff, and drink local wines. Bad horror movies and fancy cheeses are her secret pleasures. She brings passion to her everyday life and hopes to share some of it with the guests of the Pismo Beach Vet Clinic.

Ingrid (and Rasta)
Veterinary Technician
Ingrid just moved here from Orange County and brought with her a great love of animals. She has spent the past 2 years studying pet nursing and hopes to become an RVT in the near future. She has enjoyed working in multiple specialty clinics over the past few years including Avian medicine, Ophthalmology, Emergency and Internal Medicine.
Ingrid is an artist by night and enjoys painting and drawing. In her spare time you may see her walking through downtown SLO with her Conure named Rasta or find her at home with her two boy kitties (Sterling and Jasper) and her ball python (Salindra).
Ingrid really enjoys her work and focuses on strengthening the bond between human and beast through education and passion.

Valerie
Receptionist / Veterinary Technician
Valerie grew up in the Central Valley and moved to the Central Coast 2 years ago. Her love of animals began at the age of 4 when a baby kitten was born to her momma kitty. This was her first memory of taking care of an animal. From that day forward, Valerie's love for animals has grown to the level it is today.
At the age of 12, Valerie talked her mother into letting her adopt a litter of kittens that were a week old and orphaned. She bottle fed 5 baby kittens and successfully raised them to be healthy beautiful adults. Valerie's passion has never stopped and she has continued to care for animals her entire life. She has worked in a Grooming Salon and with many breeds of animals. Valerie also comes with medical experience as a human phlebotomist.
Valerie's family consists of her husband Ernest, her son Dustin, Bella (a Bichon Frise), Miley Bear (a Malti-Poo), Chocolate (an American Bulldog), and their two kitties Simba & Chuppa (short for Chupacabra) !!
Valerie's hobbies are hiking, hanging out with her my family and taking her doggies to the local dog park & the beach. She has never met an animal that she did not fall completely in love with.
Valerie's favorite quote is "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single paw print."

Jennifer
Veterinary Technician, Relief
Jennifer has always enjoyed working with animals of all types and sizes, but specifically enjoys working with exotics and rare or unusual species.
In her free time Jennifer enjoys going to the beach, setting up and maintaining freshwater aquariums, spending time with friends and family and sleeping!
Jennifer’s family includes her super handsome/sexy guinea pig named Stanley, a 17 year old cat (Lily), a Great Dane (Dante), 4 tortoises, a Uromastyx lizard, a budgie and multiple aquariums.
